Scope of Radiology Course in Paramedical Discipline

There is an increase need of knowledgeable and highly skilled professional radiology technologists in a constant continual manner under medical area; hence it’s a highly demanding profession with extensive job and career opportunities.

The Medical Imaging industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the healthcare domain and has the full potential to grow more dramatically in the future. The Radiology industry is a highly fascinating multi-dimensional career with many different opportunities to be explored.

There are vast technological advancements that are improving under radiology department serving clearer images and interaction and usage of machines that delivers outcome fast and accurate. There will always be a constant demand for better results, better image quality, quicker and time saving working style under this industry and hence making this healthcare profession an ever growing area of interest.

Radiology under the Umbrella of Paramedical College

Radiology course under paramedical disciplinary has various identity such as medical imaging technology or radiation technology or radiography and imaging technology etc. A radiographer is a healthcare professional who operates imaging modalities like X-ray, CT scan, MRI, DEXA scan, OPG, mammography.

Radiography has two broad categories such as diagnostic radiography and interventional radiography. Diagnostic radiography takes care of all the diagnosis to be made through imaging modalities like x-ray, CT scan etc. In diagnostic category, diagnosis means to detect or evaluate any kind of abnormality in comparison to normal tissue or organ of human body. As in relation to interventional radiography, it is also referred to as radiographic procedures which are further divided into diagnostic interventional procedure and therapeutic interventional procedure. The interventional radiography involves minimum invasive procedures in order to evaluate (diagnostic interventional radiography) and to treat (therapeutic interventional radiography) anomalies in the human body.

Difference between a Radiologist and a Radiographer

There is a misconception between the differences of Radiologist and Radiographer, a radiologist is a medical doctor who has completed their MBBS and has done their PG study in Radiology also known as MD radiologist. A Radiologist interprets the scanned images that are of X-ray or CT scan or MRI etc, and also has the legal right to operate ultrasound modality. A radiographer can be called as radiology technologist (Bachelor of Science in radiology & imaging technology), radiography technician (diploma in radiology & imaging technology), x-ray technician, CT technologist, MRI technologist, mammography technician. A radiographer falls under paramedical discipline that has successfully completed their degree or diploma in radiology and imaging technology.

The domain of radiography will keep growing and continue to manifest very high job growth in the future. Radiology course is considered one of the best paramedical courses for undergraduates who wish to indulge in technical practice under medical imaging field.  Also, a solid background of knowledge related to Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is an optimum necessity in this line of field. After completion of this course, the graduates can attain employment under both government and private sector.
